I was quite surprised today when a parcel got dropped off at my office containing a copy of The Guild Leader’s Handbook, a new book about, surprisingly, running guilds in MMOs. I was contacted by No Starch Press, an independent publishing company, about two weeks ago asking if I wanted a free review copy so of course, being the sellout that I am, I immediately said yes. Considering I live all the way over in Scotland I was a pretty skeptical about them actually bothering to send me one but, true to their word, it arrived today. My first blogging freebie! I must be on the road to fame and fortune.

This being the Internet, I’m going to make a sweeping generalisation and present it as fact. Obviously some people are going to wholeheartedly agree with my commentary and some will fervently disagree. If you belong to the latter camp, feel free to re-write the title of this post in your head to “why I think comic book MMOs don’t work”. There, now we’ve got all of the namby-pamby stuff out of the way, let’s get cracking with the reasons why comic book MMORPGs will never be a Hulk-smashing success.

"I knew I dropped it here somewhere..."
Another week has zoomed past and it’s time to reflect on all of those great MMORPG (and occasional other geek related) articles from across the web and blogosphere. In more personal news though, I had the pleasure of seeing Iron Man 2 this weekend. Jolly good film and great fun even if I think I prefer the first one over it (I’d give the original an A grade and the sequel a solid B+). Although not perfect or as staggeringly awesome as I had hoped for, I’d still highly recommend Iron Man 2 when it’s finally released in the US (heh, sorry, couldn’t resist) if, for nothing else, just to see Samuel L. Jackson portray Nick Fury and set up the Avengers film. Oh and here’s a helpful hint: sit through the credits, there’s another scene at the end of them.
