Aside from MMOs my other great passion has always been comic books (DC, Marvel, indie, you name it) and although you would’ve thought comic based MMOs were my ultimate fantasy I’ve always actually been rather skeptical of them. I played City of Heroes and Champions Online when they first came out but never thought much of them (even though by all accounts CoX has shaped up into a fun game) and for some reason I’ve just always had an inherent dislike to the mixing of the two together as I never felt that the core concepts of what would make a good comic book video game could exist in the MMO genre. Simply put, comic book MMOs plain don’t work.

Rapping in the UK has come a long way
I can’t believe how quicky the last week has passed. Is it just me or are the days flying by faster than ever? I didn’t manage to accomplish much apart from develop a rather slightly scary obsession with a British rapper called Mr B. Don’t worry, I haven’t started stalking him. Yet.

My brother’s colleagues at work found out he started playing World of Warcraft and sent him this video to tease him:
The strangest thing of it all is that he (my brother, not the guy in the video) is a hardcore programmer (it’s only real programming if you have to use pointers) for a hardcore programming company and yet they all still think playing WoW is geeky enough to warrant picking on him for it.
Ironically enough I work for a hip and trendy digital agency and no one has ever mocked me for playing a MMORPG (albeit I did hide my secret shame from them all for several years). Of course this probably has something to do with the fact that the Managing Director of the company used to play it.

Can’t believe I missed this one. Back in June, SOE released a documentary detailing the history and production behind Everquest, one of the “first generation” of MMORPGs and perhaps the most nostalgic for me, to celebrate it’s 10th anniversary. They showed it at the Fan Faire in Las Vegas and it looks fun and very interesting but unfortunately I haven’t been able to see it as I can’t find it anywhere. It’s available on DVD as part of the Everquest 2 Sentinel’s Fate Collector’s Edition which, to me anyway, actually makes it quite an attractive purchase. I haven’t found anywhere in the UK that’s selling the Collector’s Edition yet so we’ll just need to wait and see how it pans out come February.
Anyway, here’s the trailer from YouTube.
P.S. The official Evercracked site which was down yesterday now redirects to IGN Video showing the first 10 minutes of the documentary.

Danny Choo is one of those guys that I admire so much, I’m actually jealous of them. Native British he now lives and works in Tokyo, speaks fluent Japanese (along with speaking Mandarin, Cantonese and Korean), has had a successful career working for Amazon and Microsoft and now runs his own thriving web company. Top it all with the fact that he’s one of the most popular bloggers about and it’s enough to make you sick. He’s also one hell of a dancer as can be witnessed below…. yes, that’s him dressed as a Stormtrooper dancing on the streets of Tokyo. If it doesn’t fill you with joy then you must be dead inside.
